22% of the cruisers that recieves Barcelona reach in off peak season

The  Port of Barcelona has been driving the deseasonalization of  the cruisers segment. This politics have given aresult that 22% of the cruisers that visit Barcelona do it in low season.

This reality eases the distribution of economical impact throught the year and the relief throught the summer months and helps to correct the concentration of cruisers during the summer months, at the same time that distributes throught the year the one thousand annual euros generated by this industry and that constributes to the deal with the sustainable developement of this activity.

During the last 5 months, from November 2017 to March 2018, have passed through the Port a total of 619,364 cruiseship passengers. This  result supposed that 22% of the cruisers that have visited Barcelona during the past 12 months, have doone it in low season. The percentage of the cruise passengers that reach the city in winter increases, in as much as the the period November 2016-March 2017 represented 17% of the total.

Amongst the months of November 2017 and March 2018 the number of cruisers increased a 37% and the number of stops increased in a 20,1%, figures that confirm that each time more cruise lines bet to put its cruises in the catalonian capital during the winter months.

More efficient and sustainable cruiseships

During off peak has operated in the Barcelona´s Port the following cruise lines: the Englih one TUI Cruises and the German one  Aida Cruises (Grupo Carnival), that has reinforced this bet wih several cruiseships. We have to highlight that AIDA Cruises has brought weekley the cruiseship AIDA Pearl the newest in its fleet and that has a liquified natural gas motor (GNL), and that has been the first cruiseship in using GNL as fuel in Barcelona.

The first cruise group in the world, CarnivalCorporation, has been put cruiseships of its companies in  Barcelona during the winter season. Carnival Corporation has put its bet for the Catalonian capital with the setting up, this spring, the new Terminal @E, of 12,000 sqm. With an investment of 30 million euros, the instalation was designed with efficiency criteria and sustainability and is prepared to engage the most modern and sustainable cruiseships, for example the ones that operates exclusively with GNL.

Other cruise lines that has reinforce its services to the Port of Barcelona during its autumn and winter months is MSC Cruises, that has positioned in Barcelona its flagship cruise, the most susteinable of the cruise line, the MSC Meraviglia, built in 2016.  As well as highliting the bet of Royal Caribbean, its new cruiseship, Symphony of the Seas, in March. This cruiseship is one of the most innovators in the world and was designed following the criteria of efficiency and sustainability, that is why it allows you to be a 25% more efficicient that other cruisesships of this type.
